Change default font size for inserting plain text file

In previous versions of Word (2000 and before) it was possible to change the
font size associated with the plain text style so that when you inserted a
plain text file, it would take this font size. Now, when I modify the plain
text style to for instance Courier 8pt, it inserts text files with a modified
style (not previously present) called Plain text +10pt. It somehow forces
imported text to be 10pt! Is there a way to fix this?

There doesn't seem to be any way to avoid this, which probably results from
the fact that plain text does not store formatting information and the
import filter presumably sets a standard format. In any case it would be
irrelevant again once you saved the document as plain text. If you are
including a plain text section in a Word document then you can select that
inserted text and hit CTRL+Space to format it at whatever you have in the
plain text style.

Dear Graham,

Thanks for your reply. The issue is that I want the plain text to be part of
a formatted Word document (and don't want to end up with plain text).
Changing the format of the text after it's been inserted is of course always
possible but this can be a time-consuming process in my case (a great deal of
pages!) and in the past it was not necessary! So I'm still hoping there is
some way to alter the default 10 pt format that Word forces on me.
