I am not sure of the steps that are being used but you should have the
ability to create new stencils and add objects to them. You would start by
creating an object on the drawing sheet adding whatever features and
properties you desire. Once this has been completed open a new stencil and
drop the objects on the stencil. Note you will need to change the name
because Visio will automatically name the object master. some number. The
stencil will also need to be in the edit mode, a small red star should be
in the left corner of the Visio page icon next to the name of the stencil.
Once you are finished placing masters on the stencil save it and it should
be available for future use in Visio.

I want to use similar formats for certain shapes all the time. I have
tried
to changing the format of a shape in a drawing, then saving that shape in
my
favorites. However, the format defaults for fill and shadow don't seem to
be
saved. How can I change the default format for shapes in a stencil, or how
can I save the formats that I enter into a shape from drawing to drawing?
