Change default save as file type in explore

I have a .xlsx file in a public folder on the network. Without opening the
file in excel, clicking the file and doing a file->save as to a different
folder on the network explore wants to save the file as a type .xls as the
default. No other file type option is available. How can I save the file as
an .xlsx without having to open it? What am I missing?

Thanks.

Can't - you have to save it as the older fomat. Changing the name won't
work.

You are missing nothing, as with all applications, Save As only works
from within the application itself. On the other hand there are "file
convertors" and should you wish to convert a bunch one file type to
another, you would need to get one that would handle the file types in
question.

You have an .XLSX in one place and want to move it to a different folder, still
as an .XLSX ... is that correct?

Select the file in Windows Explorer, press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Navigate to the folder where you want the file to go, click in it and press
Ctrl+V
