change dimensions of a rectangle

When I try to change the relative shape (make it narrower for example) the
original proportions are retained. I just want to make it narrower.

When I try to change the relative shape (make it narrower for example) the
original proportions are retained. I just want to make it narrower.

select the shape, then
menu Format -> Protection and ensure that the width, height and aspect
ratio are not protected.
If changing them doesn't allow you to change the size then you will
have to look at the shape's shapesheet and ensure that the width and
height aren't guarded formulae.

Paul - I did that and had no luck. Then I discovered 'drawing tools'. Now
I'm feeling pretty stupid about this..
