Change folders & files in Office from ascending order to descendin

The order of my folders and files across excel and word has suddenly changed
to be reverse alphabetical order and i would like to change them back to the
normal alphabetical order. I have searched online and tried in Control Panel
but can't find the answer which I expect is probably very simple

Click name in detail view to reverse the order. Ctrl key and click "X"
to save setting.

Right-click in a blank area of the file list and click Arrange Icons By, and
select Name. Each time you select Name, it will reverse the order.
Alternatively, if your view in the dialog is already set to Details, click
the caption at the top of the Name column, which toggles similarly.

The setting is stored in the registry, and presumably something you (or
another process) did at some point changed it.
