To date I have had only 1 POP email address/account, 1 Personal Folder, 1
Archive Folder in outlook (the current version being 2007), 1 Outlook.pst
file, and 1 Archive.pst file.
In anticipation of obtaining a smart phone and wanting to synch my email on
both my PC and phone, I asked my email host to convert my POP email account
to an IMAP, which they did today.
I then created a new IMAP email account in Outlook using the same old email
address and somehow during the process the new IMAP folder name became
"myemailaddress.com", and a new data pst file was created with the terribly
cryptic name Outl"myemailaddress.com"-00000007.pst in the same location as my
old Outlook.pst file. Was this done automatically by MS design? Can I simply
change either one or both of these names if I like?
I plan on copying all of the email in the inbox and sent items folders from
my old Personal Folders POP account to the inbox and sent items folders in
the new IMAP "myemailaddress.com" folder so that they will be available on my
smart phone. Once that is done do I...
"Remove" my old POP email account from the Personal Folder? If I do this
won't all of that email stay in my Outlook.pst file and make it unnecessarily
large? Should I delete all of the email before removing the email account?
Could I (should I) then change the data file that the IMAP email account is
associated with to the old Outlook.pst file? or should I keep it as a
separate pst file?
