Change language legal? possible?

Hi,
I'm just curious.
Say I have a French (legal with product key) version of XP and I want
to change it to an English version.
Can I lend an English XP version, install it and use my product key of
my French version to activate it? Is it possible, is it legal?

Why not check with the source - http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.asp?
You can also submit a web request to have this question answered.

Any information you receive here (except from a MSFT employee) is conjecture
at best and a WAG at worst.
