In the Tools > Options dialog, on the General tab, change the Measurement
Units dropdown. That will affect all measurements in Word, including the
rulers, paragraph indents, table widths, etc.
In most dialogs, you can type a measurement and add the abbreviation, for
example "2.5 cm" or "16 pt", and Word will convert it to the unit chosen in
the Options dialog.
