Change site address for Sharepoint Web Appliation

Is there any way to change the site address for a Sharepoint site? I
know how to define the alternative access mappings, but I am more
interested in changing the sites that already exist rather than just
defining an additional way to access them.

I did not have the certificate for the Project server when I set it up,
and how I need to change the URL from http://<server> to https://<server>.
