When I save documents, the columns have a certain size, like name, date modified, size, kind etc
how do I change the default of the column's widths?
thanks

Are you referring to the columns in the Open & Save As dialogs? They are
actually Finder windows supplied by the OS... there is no control over the
width of those columns in any of Word's settings. Although they retain the
widths you adjust them to during a given session with a program their
defaults are controlled by OS X. I don't know of any means of changing that.

Option+Drag the column widths seems to stick (10.6)

Good to know... I just retested in Tiger (10.4.11) & found that it has no
effect here. In fact, the column widths return to their defaults each time
you go into the Open or Save As window, even during the same session.
