Change template without changing existing forms

Janie

I would like to change some text on an existing form template without
changing the text on forms I have already filled out. I am publishing the
form template to a Sharepoint form library. When I make changes to the
template, all of my existing forms change too. How can I avoid that? Thanks!

Hi Janie

What you are referring as existing forms... are nothing but set of xml
files which contain only values and they fill up in your infopath template
as
you click over them. So there is just one form and all other xml files.

If you change your template, it will be obviously be reflected.
What you can do is , create additional template with required changes and
mark
it as later version, this way your old files will be working fine and newer
will use
your new template.

Hope this helps

That helps. But can you tell me how to mark the new template as a
later version?

Hi Janie

New version I meant was just a terminology. In reality you will have two
forms, one for old files and one for newer files which your user will be
using.
If you want you can hide your old form from the New menu by going to content
type settings.

So... I publish the new form template with a new name to the existing form
library in Sharepoint? And the existing filled out forms will not be
affected?

Sorry to be so stupid. I just want to make sure I do this right so I don't
mess up the existing filled out forms.

Dont directly publish it to form library. Publish it as a site content type.
Go to form library, enable management of content types through Advanced
Settings. And then add the new content type to your form library.

If you still dont get it, see my blog for rendering forms on browser.

I get it now. But I assume this only works in Sharpoint 2007? I have the
earlier version.
