Change the Constraint using mass update

I have constraint type called "Start Earlier Than" againt 80% of the
task in my project.
I would like to change that too "As Soon As Possible" using mass
update. How do I do that ?
Thanks

Depends on how much automation you expect when you say "mass update".

try this: On a Gantt Chart, insert the field on the view "constraint
type" (right mouse click on one of the column headers, pick the "insert
column" action, pick that field). Then right mouse click on the new
inserted column, and pick the "sort by" option. Pick "constraint type"
as the sort field. this will put all the equally named constraint types
together into one "set" which will allow you to easily copy/paste in "As
Soon As Possible" to each of those you wish to change.

You could also write VBA code to do the above if you have a lot of files
to deal with and really want to to get automation. That may be over the
top in this case.

I don't exactly know what you mean by "'Start Earlier Than' against 80%
of the task", but at least the above gives you a quick way to do a
bulk change.

Hi KS,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Further, when you've created the set that Rob describes that has only the
Start No Earlier Than constraint, try this: select all (click the Task Name
column heading), then Project/Task Information/ Advanced tab and in the
dialog select in the Constraint Type field to read As Soon As Possible.
Then OK will do the global change you're after. I described this as being a
useful method of doing a global change to any of the parameters listed in
the Task Information dialog.

In case you're unaware, the Start No Earlier Than constraint has probably
appeared by typing in the Start Dates of the tasks. Never type in dates as
such constraints will inhibit the flexibility of your project. Just enter
Tasks, Durations and Precedence links and let Project do its job of
calculating the dates for you based on that data.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
