CHANGE THE DATE WITHIN A DOCUMENT

P

Pat

I am setting up a communication log which requires each day of the year. Is
there a formula, in Word, where I can enter the first date and have it change
to the next date on the next page etc. for the full year minus weekends?

Just about everything you can think of to do with date calculations is
covered at http://www.gmayor.com/insert_a_date_other_than_today.htm, in
particular see the link to macropod's work on date fields. However how are
you going to use this document? Are you going to add the pages daily or are
you going to start with all the dates filled?

I am going to set up the entire year (4 dates per page) and then print it out
all at once.

In that case I would setup the dates in Excel. It is very simple to create a
column with a year's worth of weekdays. Add a title to the top of the column
and save it. Use that as a data source to create either a label or directory
merge document - the principle is similar to that at
http://www.gmayor.com/Numbered_labels.htm

I have set the dates in an Excel document and thought along the same lines of
setting up a merge in word. How do you get the excel document to work with
the word merge document? I have worked with merged documents in word many
times but have never tried to have my data source from an excel document,
would love to learn though.

Word can work with a variety of data sources including an Excel table. The
method is shown in the link I posted earlier. You can use that in
conjunction with http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_labels_with_word_xp.htm or
http://www.gmayor.com/merge_labels_with_word_2007.htm
If you want four records (dates) on a page then you would either use a four
cell table and create a label merge, or you would enter the field and
sufficient blank lines to fill a quarter of the page and set the document
type to Directory (see above links) then merge to a new document. If you are
using a directory merge it may take a few attempts to get it all to line up
exactly as you require it but the procedure is simple enough.

This worked fabulously thank you so much.
I used the excel 4 cell method.
One problem I encountered....in excel I display the dates as Thursday
January 2, 2009 for example. In the merged word document it displays as
1/1/2009. Any way to change this to the full date?

If January 2 merges to 1/1/2009 then there is something seriously amiss,
however if it merges to 1/2/2009 you can use a switch on the mergefield eg

{Mergefield Datefieldname \@ "dddd MMMM d, yyyy"}
