If that isn't what you want, please try a less cryptic follow up
question. :)

Heh, you're right.
To simplify, what i mean is how to change the numbering (which is by default
I, a.) to automatically tailor to MY own customized numbering system, which
happens to be in a different order. In other words, I want
I
A.
1)
a)
to appear every time I hit enter and/or tab. If it can't be done, I could
accustom to the *MS* way of outlining, no big deal :)

Take a peek at the numbering task pane. It lets you change the start number,
the nesting options, etc. Andrew gave you the keystrokes to bring it up,
I'll tell you that you can also get there via Format--> Numbering or by
View--> Task Pane, and then selecting "Numbering" from the list of task
panes.

Hi,

As Kathy pointed out I did give you the keystrokes to get where you
wanted to get - the numbering task pane.

Alt O N does take you there. :)

There is a Customize Numbering option towards the bottom of the
Numbering task pane.

But I guess my answer was as short as the question. :)

I hope you have found a format you like.
