Hello,
I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean. So my guesses are:
* for some reason you really want to change the language in the the
page number field, but I really cannot see the point why one would
like to change the language for numbers. Anyway it should be possible.
I have tried that, but I'm on PC so the interface is bit different, I
made a screenshoot for you to navigate you and hope that some Mac
people will come so to give you the exact direction on Mac. The trick
is to modify the *page number* style responsible for the page number.
The style should be available from the formatting palette you have on
Mac. Please see the screen at: http://home.tiscali.cz/zviratko/
picture called pages_language.JPG

The other reason or way which hit me is that you do not really want to
change the language but you want o change the page number style from
1,2,3 to something like I, II, III to do that as soon as you open the
headers a toolbar which will allow you to formate the headers should
appear. Click on that button with paper with # in hand. that will
allow you to modify the style.

If none of the above is what you wanted post back with more details
including you office, system version.

For good reason. It makes no sense.

Maybe one should be licensed to use the internet the way radio amateurs used
to be licensed (code requirement). Prospective licensees must be able to
write comprehendingly in at least one language.

Mr Pot, may I introduce Mr Kettle, who is black.

comprehensibly.

Most people who ask questions here are having some difficulty with the
product. Chief among those difficulties is unfamiliarity with the
established terms used in describing the area of the product with which
they are having the difficulty. If they knew what those terms were,
they could make better use of the online help and you and I wouldn't
see the questions they once had.

On top of that, this english language group is rather better attended
than those in other languages. Thus you have no evidence that Somia and
for that matter little_creature are not not completely fluent in
several other languages in which you and I can but dream of being
understood.

Now, I'm unsure whether you will read that with full comprehension, so
here is the short version.
You have made rather an ass of yourself. Please be quiet. Come back
when you have a question about Microsoft Word on Macintosh, or better
yet, when you can actually help somebody with their problem.

Onya, cobber! (Format | Style | Modify | Langauage | Calathumpian.)

[Note: if your Mac does not have antipodean OS X settings the above may not
register; in that case, please ignore.]

Now *that's* the spirit!
I do now regret getting snippy with you. This is an awfully civilised
group, and my childish retort to you was itself a bit of pot calling
the kettle black itself. Please make yourself at home.

Well, I understood Somia perfectly :)

He wants to change the National Language specification for his page
numbering.

You can do that with Format>Style>Modify>Format>Language... And change the
Page Number style.

You must change the Style or the setting won't hold. When you do, check the
"Add to template" button to save the change to your Normal template so that
it holds for all new documents.

However, please do not expect this to change the number formatting
(thousands separator, decimal point, etc). To change that, you have to
change the keyboard language or the OS language.

Which is a pain...

Cheers
