I have detailed calendar/appointment information dating back to 2003 that I
need to keep handy. I need the appointment times to stay fixed, no matter
what time zone I'm in.
Formerly, I used Palm Desktop and a Palm z100. Palm Desktop does not (I
assume) assign time zones to appointments, because when I would change my OS
time zone, my appointment times in Palm Desktop (and on my Palm) were
unaffected.
I switched from Palm Desktop software to Outlook (still using the Palm)
while living in the EST zone. I'm guessing that Outlook stamped all of my
appointments as being in EST when I first synced my Palm with Outlook,
because that was time zone on my OS when I did that.
Then I moved to the CST zone. I updated my OS time, and Outlook moved all of
my appointment times back by one hour. I was still using a Palm, so I worked
around this by: 1) setting my OS and Palm times to EST, syncing to make sure
everything was correct, changing my OS and Palm times to CST, and syncing
such that my Palm data replaced the data in Outlook. Result: the hours of the
appointments as I looked at them in Outlook were unchanged (a 2pm appt still
reads as a 2pm appt), but Outlook (I assume) stamped all of those calendar
entries as being in the CST zone instead.
Now I am using a PDA phone. So when I travel to other time zones, (I'm in
EST now), the phone time/time zone automatically updates itself.
I HAVE figured out that I can change the time on my computer without
changing the time zone, so, in effect, I can look at the correct clock time
and the correct appointment times in Outlook on my laptop, even though the
time zone on my OS is actually an incorrect CST.
BUT, my phone time automatically updates itself. So even when I use the
preceding workaround (the Frankenstein CST that allows me to look at correct
appt times), the result is that my appts show up as one hour later on my PDA,
because my OS/Outlook says they are CST appts and my phone is in EST.
I NEED to be able to change the time zone in my OS (and therefore Outlook,
if I understand correctly) without changing my appt times. There are about
7000 appointments in my Outlook calendar, and I can't go back and change them
all from CST to another time zone even once, let alone every time I travel
for work.
Any help will be MUCH appreciated.
