Change to regional fonts?

I have a Word document saved in XP with Thai font. I opened it with my new
Vista pc..but I can't read it.

I added thai fonts via Control Panel, Regional and Languages..changed the
default to Thai from English.

I still can't read the file.

Also...I need to add Thai font to keyboard...did just as explained
above..but keyboard still types in English.

Any suggestions??
