Change where Entourage Stores Main Identity

Is it possible to change the folder where Entourage stores its Main Identity?
It is currently under Documents. I am syncing this with iDisk and want to
keep that just for document files. the database in Identity is a big file,
almost 9GB and this makes syncing difficult and impossibly slow. Part of the
reason is that I am replacing my standard Documents folder with an alias from
iDisk. Therefore, by default all folders/files saved/stored under Documents
will have to be synced; so I wont be able to the a la carte syncing.

You can move it and use an alias or symlink in the original location.

Corentin,

Thanks for prompt response. a couple of questions:
1. Re alias suggestion: is it simply a question of copiyng file to new location, creating alias and moving that alias to the original location?
2. will that affect the operation of any of the MS programs, entourage etc?
3. when i do the iDisk sync, will it sync just the alias (under 100kb I presume) which is what i want, or will it still try and sync the 9GB original file.
4. would creating the symlink be the better way to go? If so could you send me the instructions if its not too much of a problem, with the correct code?

thanks again. much appreciated.

Corentin,

Yes, but the alias MUST be named precisiely - "Microsoft User Data"
(without the quotes).
2. will that affect the operation of any of the MS programs, entourage etc?
No.

3. when i do the iDisk sync, will it sync just the alias (under 100kb I

not sure - never tried this :)

correct code?

A symlink would _certainly_ sync the full 9Gb target.
thanks again. much appreciated.

You're welcome :)
