I have just switched to broadband from dial-up this evening, same with modem
connection apparently.
The email account still stating that I am using the old 56K modem dial-up
connection when requested Send/Receive email hence "error!".
I looked everywhere but failed to make the pc update with the new modem
information, the new modem is supplied free from ntlworld which was and still
is my internet service provider.
Appreciate your help as a matter of urgency please and please do not ask me
to change to Outlook Express.

It's your Internet Explorer settings that need to be changed. In IE, Tools,
Internet Options, Connections, check 'Never dial a connection' since you use
the LAN connection instead. Cable/dsl and telephone modems are not the same.
Your telephone modem still works and can be used, but not for connection to
Internet. You can use it for dialing phone calls and for faxing.
