changes have been made that affect the global template

Ok. here is my problem.

I have Windows XP Office SP2 - Word 2002 (it came with my
computer)

I first noticed a problem when I opened Word and then
wanted to close it (blank doc - I can't open any, i'll get
to that in a minute). I would get this error - "The file
Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing
file?"

I choose no. The box to save items pops up and asks me to
save NORMAL. I say Cancle. Word still doesn't close.

I try to close it again. and get:

"Changes have been made that affect the global template,
Normal. Do you want to save those changes?"

I say no. And then the program closes.

The other problem that has started since this has
happened, is that I can no longer open any word files in
word. I can open them in notepad, or wordpad, but Word
will just say: "The file (NAME) is not available."

Can anyone on earth please help me fix this? I don't have
any add-in's installed. At least if I go to
Tools/templates-addins there isn't anything listed there.

PLEASE, this is very annoying.

Thanks,
Kat

Are you using Norton AntiVirus? If so, what happens if you disable the
Norton Office Plug-in?
