Changes needed to Resource Breakdown Structure

One of our managers has resigned and left the company. Instead of replacing
the manager with a backfill, another existing manager is picking up most of
the resources with the remaining resources reporting into another manager.
This has created the need to revise the RBS in PS.

What is the process to do this? Where do I start? I have drafted the
changes and had management review. Now, I am ready to start making the
changes in Project Server. Is there a how to, for this or best practice?

What about when new employees join the company or managers leave, or people
are promoted?.... how should the RBS be managed ongoing, business as usual?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Open the Enterprise Global file and edit the RBS outline code to show the
new reporting structure. Save and close the Enterprise Global, then exit
and relaunch Microsoft Project Professional. Open the Enterprise Resource
Pool and check out all resources. Set the new RBS values for resources
affected by the reorganization of the reporting structure.

As a general rule, if your company's reporting structure changes, you will
probably want to revise the RBS. Otherwise, if the reporting structure is
fairly static, and people leave and are simply replaced by others, you would
only need to revise the Enterprise Resource Pool as needed. Hope this
helps.

Thanks, Dale. I appreciate your steps. I will make our changes in a test
environment before moving into production.

Question: OLAP cube will need to be updated?

Before updating the OLAP cube again, I would recommend that your PM's
republish each project using Collaborate - Publish - All Information. The
OLAP cube will then be able to rebuild using the latest published
information for every project. Hope this helps.
