Changes not being saved in a Shared Excel workbook...HELP!

So, I have about 10 users that are sharing an Excel file that they are
using the Share Workbook feature on. They're all using the same
version of Excel/Office Mac 2004 11.2.1. They're all using G5 Duals
running Mac OS X 10.4.5. The Excel document is stored on a Mac based
Xserve Storage location that they all access.

One user goes in and makes changes and saves them on his end. It looks
like it's doing a "good save", but when he re-opens the file his
changes are not there.... Sometimes, his changes can be seen by
others, however.

Can anyone point me in the right direction PLEASE!!

Hi Cheech,

Things to check:

In the shared workbook there is a history that logs who has made
changes. Does the history file match the dates and times expected?

Search for a local copy of the file. Maybe the workbook that's being
shared isn't the one that's being opened.

Hi Cheech,
In addition to Jim's suggestions:

1) Sometimes the network connection gets "lost" and then reestablished after
the workbook is open. You can see evidence of this by looking in the
Tools-Share Workbook-Editing pane. This will list all the users who Excel
"thinks" have the workbook open. If this is different than who REALLY has
the workbook open, it is best to purge this list by having a single user
open the work book for exclusive editing, and then resharing the workbook.

2)You realize that changes do not show up until the workbook is saved. So if
user A and user B make a change, B can't see A's changes until after both A
and B have saved the changes.

3)If you have virus protection on the server, and it is set to automatically
scan every document, this may be causing the problem. Try running for a
while with virus protection turned off and see if that helps. If so, try
moving the file to a "safe zone" that does not get scanned.
