changing a document's template

I've got a document that was created using Template A (e.g., Normal.dot), and
I want to alter it so it looks as though it was created using Template B
(e.g., Special.dot).

How? Can a doc's base template be changed, or will I have to copy and paste
the whole thing into a new doc, or.....?

Sorry if I'm missing something simple. thanks
