I have encountered a problem with switching to a Russian keyboard layout
while writing a subject of an email. I have German and Russian keyboard
layouts, I can freely type using both in the body of an email, but if I want
to type a subject in Russian I cannot even switch to the Russian layout.
I wen to the Regional and Language options of the system (Windows XP) and
changed language for non-Unicode program from German to Russian, after
resturting the system I was able to write a subject in Russian, but my try
to switch a keyboard layout to German failed. I figured out that the same
problem appears with fields To:/Cc:/Bc: and this was already a problem since
all email address are spelled in Latin (in my case German).
Experimenting with different regional settings I found two posibble
solutions:
1. Install 3 keyboard layouts: German, Russian and English and use Russian
for non-Unicode programs. Then I'm able to switch layouts between Russian
and English while typing a message subject, and using usual for me German
and Russian layouts for all the other needs. I need German layout because of
my German keyboard. But the English layout is useless for all the other
programs and only disturbs me while switching between layouts.
2. Leave only 2 keyboard layouts: German, Russian and set German as a
default language for non-Unicode programs and forget about subjects in
Russian
I actually thought that Outlook is trully Unicode software. To be honest
Outlook Express is much better in treating internationalization and
localization needs. I can type in any language/layout that installed in my
system.
Is anybody here who has encountered similar problem? Is there a way to
resolve it? Maybe I just lack some checkbox checked somewhere in the
settings of my Outlook?
Any ideas, solutions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Vladimir
