Changing a MS Works file to MS Word file

My previous PC came with MS Works and I made a couple important files in
Works format. I made a floppy backup, but it became corrupt somehow. The PCs
HD crashed and was not recoverable. I presently have a Dell with Office XP
that includes Word 2002. Is there any way to change the Works files into
Word format without having Works installed to open it? Is there any viewer
that will open the file so I can get to the material and copy it to Word?
Any solution or ideas will be much appreciated.

Have you tried opening the Works files in Word? Word is capable of handling
several Works formats.

Important: Do NOT try to open the file from the floppy. Given that
the file may be in subwonderful condition to start with, one of the
easiest ways to corrupt it, or corrupt it further, is to open it from
the floppy. Instead, use Windows Explorer to copy it to your hard
disk and try opening it from there.

The floppy is unusable and will not open or transfer.

Suzanne, the Works files with .wps extensions, I have been able to open with
Word and save as a Word document with the "Converter", but the Works
spreadsheet files with the .wks extension, I haven't been able to open
(except in some kind of Word gibberish). Any suggestions?

The WKS files are spreadsheets, so Word isn't ever gonna open them.
They *will* open in Excel, but ONLY if you first open them in Works
and then resave them as WKS Version 2.0 files. Since you no longer
have Works, you may be out of luck for those files unless you can
find someone else who does.
