Changing a resource's schedule

Hopefully this is an easy question.

If I change the working hours of a resource, say that resource wants
next Monday off, how does that propagate to any project plans the
resource is assigned to? Does it automatically change the plan or do I
need to do something manually to reflect the change in working hours in
the plan?

Richard,
This is an easy answer : No problem.
If you set a day off in a resource calendar, all the tasks which used that
resource on this specific day will be postponed.

To piggyback on Gerard's excellent answer, your project managers must
actually open any project in which the resource in question is a team member
and assigned to tasks. As they open each of these projects, the system will
actually reschedule work assigned to the resource on the day the resource is
taking a day of vacation. Hope this helps.
