changing area codes

My area code changes tomorrow and I would like to find a way first to change
the default area code that show up every time I add a new contact or phone
number and second to change the area code in all of the current contacts.

Change the area code in your Phone & Modem settings (in the Control Panel).
There's an addin here for mass changes:
