Changing cell colors from a function command

I am trying to change a cell color to either red, yellow or green if the data
in the cell is greater than lets say 90 it would turn red. Less than 90 but
greater than 80 yellow and less than 80 turn to red. Without using
conditional formatting.
Unless there is a way to conditional format the cell and have the
conditional formatting move with the sorting of high to low.
I can do the conditional formatting just fine but when I sort the
conditional formatting stays with the cell it doesn't move with the sorting.

Your best bet is conditional formatting. It should stay with the cell even
after a sort.

Post the conditional formatting you are using, and how you are doing the
sort, and what you want to happen differently. Someone will be able to show
you a solution.

I highlighted the cell and setup the conditional formatting but it will not
follow the sorting. If I set the conditional formating on cell D4 with if >80
it will turn red when I sort high to low the conditional formatting stays
with cell D4 and if the number in D4 is >80 it turns red. I want it to follow
what ever number was in cell D4. Once the number moved to cell D15 there is
no conditional formatting on D15 it stayed at D4. If I just turn that cell to
red it then follws the data that was on D4 and moves to D15 and D15 is now
red.

You have completely lost me. Why don't you give an example of your before
and after data. Also identify which version of Excel you are using, and the
actual conditional format formula. I'm sure there's a solution to what you
want, but we need a clear explanation.

Fred
