Changing Color in template

V

Vicki

I'm looking at the recipe cookbook template in particular and cannot figure
out any way to change the "background colors" and get rid of the striping. I
use the term "background" loosely because it doesn't appear to technically be
a background as using those word tools doesn't do a thing. Frustrated!
Trying to put together a family cookbook for my daughter for Christmas.

It's a graphic. You will have to copy the image, paste it into a graphics
editing program, make the desired changes, copy the design, and then paste
it back into the Word document.

Vicki

The first page of the cookbook template does appear to be a graphic and I can
actually make it white. However, the subsequent pages aren't behaving as a
graphic. Meaning, I can't click on the entire page and make changes?! Help
again please.

Your family cookbook sounds like a great idea and I understand that
getting the templates to work can be a pain. I created a wonderful
family cookbook using Family
Cookbook Project and I could not be happier with how easy it was
to get everyone in my family to contribute recipes and then have our
family cookbook printed. Not only do we have a printed cookbook, but
are recipes are online so it is easy to email them to friends that
don’t have the cookbook available to them.

They are graphics - I was able to grab them in Word and copy them. It does
take time and is a royal PITA. It seems to me there is a way to pick one
thing and cycle you way thru the objects but I am drawing a blank on how I
did it. Perhaps someone can help my failing memory?

You may be thinking of PowerPoint, where you can use the Tab key to do this.

Hi Vicki,

Is this the template with the light blue and gold background color blocks?

On the first/cover sheet the graphics are in the usual working (document area). On the following pages they're in the header for the
document.

If you're using a pre Word-2007 version, go to the 2nd page, and use the View Header and Footer Tool. Select the background, right
click and choose
Grouping=>Ungroup
Answer yes if you get a prompt about converting the background. You should then be able to select the individual rectangle shapes
and fill them with a different color, gradient or picture fill. Alternatively when you first go to 'header/footer' view you can
select the background and delete it then Insert your own.

On the Cover page there is a text box that surrounds the page and a text box that holds the 'Recipes' title (in White text) and an
empty text box at the top of the page. The rest of the page consists of two 'pictures' One with the pot on the stove and one with
the background. You can delete either of these and insert your own background by inserting a shape and then adding a fill, or
inserting a picture. you like.

The graphic you see on the subsequent pages are in the header/footer layer.
For versions prior to 2007 Go to View/Header and Footer. For Word 2007,
right-click the header area and then click Edit Header.

You should be able to right-click the graphic and select Edit Picture and
convert it into an Office Drawing object. Then you can make modifications to
the colors. You can on the subsequent pages anyway. You'd need to use a
graphics editor for the first page. If you want to use the same background
on the subsequent pages on the first page then delete the graphic an in Page
Setup on the Layout tab clear the "Different First Page" option.
