Changing column widths when already pre-set the amount of columns

not making much sense am i , basically i created a table and stated that i wanted 5 rows and 4 columns. i now need to go from 4 columns to 2 and i don't know how to reduce it down because this is all knew to me

Place the cursor in the column(s) that you want to delete and from the Tools
menu, select Delete and then Columns

Have a look at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/TableBasics.htm for
some basic table information. You need to select two columns and delete
them. There are ways to restore the table to full margin width depending on
the version of Word you have. If 2000 or above, set the table width on the
Table tab of Table Properties to 100%.
