I recently switched to a Mac and am using Entourage (was previously
using Outlook 2003). My problem is that the "Columns" function under
"View" seems be permanently disabled (it is always gray and not
presenting itself as an option).
In the switch I moved my Outlook data over to Entourage using
Outlook2Mac (don't know if that is relevant information or not)
including my extensive folder system.
I am currently using Entourage to view primarily POP accounts - such as
Gmail.
I don't have a problem with the default columns in most of my folder
views except for my historical Sent Items folders which display "From".
I cannot get access to the "Coumns" function to change this to "To".
The current/primary Sent Items folder is fine - it displays "To", but
not any of the historical folders.
Can anyone help?
1) You're in the wrong newsgroup. This one is for Word Mac. Try
microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage, next door, in future. Cross-posted
here.
2) The Default view in Entourage 2004 is what we call here "3 column view",
officially known as "Preview Pane at Right". Check the View menu. If that's
what you've got, you can switch it to "Preview Pane Below". If you do that,
you can choose all the columns you want. Or is that the problem?
3) In "Preview Pane at Right", the _information_ passed to the middle column
includes just the "From" (sender), _except_ for the "official" Sent Items
folder "On My Computer" (and any Sent Items folder of IMAP and Exchange
accounts as well), and any subfolders of it that you may have. Is that what
you mean? Correct - there's nothing much you can do about that, unless you
switch to "Preview Pane Below" view. I have secondary local folders which
store sent messages from a particular account and in 3-pane view just show
my name. BUT - if you move those folders to be subfolders of Sent Items
folder (or you might have to move messages into a new subfolder you make
there), the recipient names should show up in 3-pane view.
HOWEVER:
4) If you imported messages or folders - as you did with Outlook2Mac, or any
method that brings over either .mbox or .eml files - all messages get
imported as "received" messages, not "sent" messages. Their Received time
will all be the time you imported, (Sent time will be accurate), you can't
Resend, the Account is always your default account even if sent or received
on another email address, and other little anomalies are present, such as
the ones you're seeing. If it really matters to you, you could get my
shareware scripts Export-Import Entourage from
MacScripter.net <
http://macscripter.net/scriptbuilders/>
and run the script "Convert Imports X" on selected messages in any of these
folders. It will convert the messages to Sent type (and can also change the
account of received messages to that of a secondary email address, if you
want). Now messages in 3-pane view in a subfolder of Sent Items should
display recipient names. I can't guarantee anything else, because I haven't
tested other scenarios. (By the way, the other scripts there would have done
a better job of bringing over you contacts, calendar, tasks and notes from
Outlook with all fields and categories, but you can ignore this plug! ;-)
