Changing database ownership

R

Ron's Access

After my old system crashed I restored my Access database to my new system.

In security it says that the database and many of the objects (primarily
tables) have the owner <unknown> and I can not open these tables.

I have deleted the mdw files, created new ones, created a new database and
tried importing these tables but I keep the message that I don't have
permission to access them.

If anyone can please help I would be greatly appreciated. These tables are
quite complicated and it would be almost impossible to recreate them from
scratch.

I have tried running the database on both an XP system and a Vista system
and get the same problem.

The MDW files carry the credentials of each user. By deleting them, you
cannot regain either ownership status, or admin status, unless you have the
exact PIDs and usernames of each member. The actual permissions are carried
within each database, but they refer to the MDW file for credential
authentication.

I hope that you have an exact rebuild, or didn't actually delete the MDW
files because if you did, you'll need to find someone who can crack
security. If there was personal data in those tables, whomever you find,
better be bonded and have certificates, or you may have a bigger problem
with various governments.
