Changing "date picture was taken"

im looking to change the the "date picture was taken" property of the
pictures ive taken with my digital camera (that have the incorrect dates).
Everywhere i've looked i can't find how to fiddle with that

Well, this doesn't look like a topic for Office products, but here goes.

While it's easy to view the information in many image programs (such as
IrfanView), they are not likely to give you any editing of the exif
information - kind of defeats the purpose of storing that data. However,
with a hex editor, you should find the data in ASCII format near the
beginning of the image file. Depends on the camera and the exact data
format. I find the date time starting at address 0x12A for my Olympus,
about 0x1DA for my Kodak.

Of course, you should experiment with copies of the files before you go
messing with your original files.

Another thought that I have done is open the photos in a viewer, then save
as a different name.

That changes the file timestamp, but not the internal information in the
pictures. See my previous reply

So now I can edit the dates of pictures with a hex program, however, I can't
add dates to pictures that, for some reason or another, have no date. I tried
putting a date in but that just screws up the file. Is there anyway to insert
a date?

you can test with.
