Is is possible to change the default colours in Word? I can do it in Excel
charts, but I haven't been able to find anything for Word.

Thanks for any help

If you want to add color to that pallete showing color patches:

1. draw a box or anything
2. select it
3. on the Drawing toolbar click on small arrow just right to the button with
can
3. choose More fill colours
4. make your own color and then clik OK
5. the new colour will appear in the pallete showing color patches (when
click on small arrow just right to the button with can on drawing toolbar)
in additional row

Have you been loking for this?

No, no I already knew of that.

What I mean by default colors is the main color palette ("Level 1") which
opens whenever we click on any "Color:..." icons (for text, fills, lines,
etc.), not the one which opens from the "more Colors..." button at the
bottom of the main color palette ("Level 2").

The Mac more colors... is much better than the PC version. I am creating
templates on a Mac which are to be used on PCs and the client wants some or
all of the colors on the main color palette to be changed to their ten house
style colors.

Have said it can't be done, but I am happy to be wrong if the palette can be
customised (and if so I can find out how).

Hello
I have just re-read your note and have checked the instructions again. Yes,
they do add to the main palette. Hope they can take ten colours (but
probably not the 30 if I include required shades).

Thanks again

Just checked this out. These colours only work for shapes (including text
boxes) but not for words, tables and paragraphs. I need the colours
particularly for tables. Just shows how hybrid and bitty Word is.

I have already created a user form with 30 colours but it does not look
great because userforms on Macs can only import black and white pictures
even if they are RGB BMPs so I had to approximate the colours using the
default form palette - a really basic set from which to choose.

So, I go back to my original question: can the main calour palette(s) for
text, tables, paragraphs, borders be changed.

Thanks

Sorry, Sol, not in PC Word - at least not as of 2003 (don't know about
2007).

The standard color palette provides 40 presets which cannot be changed, to
which you can add 8 more of your choice. If you attempt to add a 9th, it
will replace the 1st of your 8 custom color selections (the 10th will
replace the 2nd, etc.).

I'm not certain, but I believe that if you send a doc with more than 48
colors from Mac Word, the PC side will display all colors in the doc, but
all won't be added to a palette. If it actually adds any or how it "chooses"
which 8 to add I have no idea...if color range & accuracy is an issue I just
don't use Word in the first place:)
