changing default text formatting on callout boxes

I'm writing a software user manual where I am using callout boxes to
highlight parts of screenshots of the software. I have specified a
style for my callout text (named Callout) and I know how to apply the
style to the callout box. However I'm wondering if there is a way to
set the new callouts to all have the same default font style
("Callout") without individually changing each one as I add it.

I already have tried picking a correctly formatted callout and
selecting "Default for new objects" but although it took the line, etc
formatting, it seemed to ignore the font style.

AFAIK, all text boxes use Normal style by default, so short of modifying
that (which I *don't* recommend), you have little recourse but to apply your
style after creating the callout.
