Changing defaults for tables

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel My apologies if this has been asked and answered. I tried searching the Forums and couldn't locate anything.

About 99% of the time, when I insert a table, I want it to be centered and 6.5 inches wide. Is there anyway to set that as the default? I know there are a bunch of workarounds, but it just seems to me that I should be able to control this directly.

Theoretically, Table Styles should provide something close to what you're
asking for. Unfortunately, they have always been unreliable & potentially
problematic.

The best approach [IMHO] is to save the formatted table as an AutoText item
with a unique name & insert an instance of it whenever needed.

I couldn't find anything about Table Styles, but the AutoText idea works just fine. Thanks!

That's one of the bugs :)

Table Styles are not correctly described in the Help. The reason is than
they don't work properly and Microsoft doesn't want to get killed by the
rush of complaints, so in Mac Word they just say nothing about them :)

Bob is correct: don't use them and you won't waste so much time.

Cheers
