Changing Display names so that only email is shown

I am using Outlook 2003 SP2 with Business Contact Manager SP1.

1. Over time I have updated the Full Name field on some contacts with the
correct name, and my first problem is that when I send these contacts an
email now, the old name (I think this may be referred to as a Nickname) comes
up with in the TO: field together with their email address in brackets: eg
Bruno Constanty or Stephan Ponte ([email protected])
In the BC Form for this contact, the Full Name is actually Stephan Ponte.
So how do I get the old Nickname updated?

2. I don't want the Nickname to appear at all on the email, just their
email address, so how do I get rid of this? I have read some postings which
refer to a 'Display As' field but there is not one of these I can see on my
BC forms, only a 'File As' field.

It is really important for me that my contacts do NOT receive the Nickname
text if at all possible - how do I sort this out please?

To delete the nickname file
Start -> Search (Windows Logo key + F on your keyboard)
*.nk2
rename the .nk2 file

I am not aware of how you would remove the Email Display As field. If left
empty, it's autogenerated anyway. I've tried adding it to the view and
clearing it out, but it autopopulates.

The question is what are you trying to accomplish? Perhaps using BCC is the
answer? In the TO: Field would be something generic, and the rest would
receive BCC'ed message. Alternatively, you can always export/import just the
address data and neglect to import the first/last name fields into a
different Outlook contact set/address book.

Display Names fields are still the same, ie showing the old names that I want
to get rid of. Any other suggestions?

Re using the BCC field, I generally send individual emails so I only use the
TO field and therefore having the programme add the Display Names field is a
nightmare, especially as I have not been able to get rid of the old ones as
above. I have been through all my contacts (several hundred!) and ensured
that the correct name is in the Full Name field but it did not give me the
new version when I deleted the *.nk2 folder.

Would welcome some help with this as it is driving me nuts!

The NK2 file was responsible for the nicknames that happen when you type an
address, not select an address from the address book. For the record, what
you refer to as fields are actually columns in database world, so I'll refer
to them as such.

What you are requesting is not possible otherwise. It pulls this info from
the "File As" column, which happens to match the "Email Display As" column.
You can modify the "File As" entry format on a per contact basis. It should
be possible to write a macro to change all contacts to the desired format.

Now, one way to verify this is to add a custom view to your contacts folder.

In that view, which you can create by copying an existing view, add from
"All Contact Fields" the "Email Display As" column. Then activate that view.

That will allow you to preview the content of this column.

I suspect that you put some extra detail into your contact columns in an
inappropriate column rather than customizing the view to show different
information. I do help my clients do some weird things with Outlook, but I
haven't had to do something similar to your request yet.
