Changing Dur creates a Schedule Conflict?

Coop

I am working in Project Pro and MSPServer. I have a simple sched driven by
dependencies and Durs. All constraints are ASAP. I have four paths that,
when I attempt to update the duration (we are in planning) I get the
following conflict error from Planning Wizard: "Scheduling conflict...Task #
has a task constraint or is linked to a task that cannot move. Constraint or
link cannot be set." All I am trying to do is update duration! Any
assistance you can provide would be much appreciated...Are these error
messages good at pointing you to the issue? I hate to ignore it, but I am
running out of options. Thanks.

Hi Coop,

Not all of your constraints are ASAP! This message only comes up when you
have a MUST constraint somewhere or a Finish no later than. Insert the
column "Constraint type" to see which one.

It sounds like you have input task start and/or end dates instead of letting
project calculate them for you. Either that or you have othwise entered a
constraint for one or more tasks down the line from the one you're trying to
update. If your duration change would mean a downline task would move but
it can't move due to a constraint, Project will balk at the conflicting
orders.

Thanks for your response. I know it's crazy, but I have done that and they
are all asap. Could Server do anything to cause this? I am not familiar
with what happens on that end. Thanks Jan. Coop

Thanks for the reply. No, all constraints are ASAP. I have double, triple
and so on checked. Even had a few other people check. Could server be doing
anything to mess me up? I know nothing about that end. It seems as though I
can play with the preds tab of the id the error message points to...not save
any changes, but just ping a few things, change them back and then save.
That corrects it, but once I save it to the server and bring it back up, I
have the same problem. If I save it to my desktop, not the server, I don't,
the problem seems corrected, even though I didn't really save any changes.
Stumped completely.

Hi,

There could be a link between projects, i.e. to a task in a different
project.
If that isn't the case can you send me the file?
You can "decypher" my spam-resistent e-mail address ofr find it on my
website.

Hi Coop,

Have you by any chance got precedence links attached to any summary tasks?

Posted a partial message somehow - sorry. Could you have any actuals posted
to any of the tasks that are scheduled later than the task you're trying to
change? Once an actual is entered that fixes the task to the dates where it
is posted as having taken place.
