Changing footnotes to endnotes

I have Word2004 and have a 32 page document with 4-5
footnotes a page. I now want to change those footnotes to
endnotes. I do the insert>reference>footnotes>convert and
watch in horror the page numbers at the bottom increase to
400 hundred and more before I stop it and hit UNDO. So
what is happening? I am not sure there is a endnote style
in the style list. that can't be good.

Eternal repagination could signify a corrupt document....do you really mean
Word 2004, which is a Mac version? If so, see here:

http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/DocumentCorruption.htm
(hit reload a few times in Safari, if that doesn't work, try Explorer)

If you are using a WinWord version, then see here:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm

You could also try doing the conversion while in Normal view, then Word
might not try to paginate and convert at the same time.

Whether there is an Endnote style in the style list kinda depends on your
version and what you have set to show in the style list, so that's no
guarantee of a problem.
