changing formulas

In cell B10 I have the formula =SUM(B3:B6). However, when
I enter numbers in B7, B8 or B9, the formula in B10
changes to include the cell I entered a number into.

You can turn off this "helpful" feature by:

tools|Options|Edit tab
Uncheck Extend List formats and formulas.
