Changing from Outlook Express 6.0 to Outlook 2002

I have Outlook Express on my PC and have just purchased MS Office XP

Professional for home use. I inserted the CD's and installed the software.
The problem is that I can't seem to open Outlook. I get this error message:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft OutlookExpress
4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from
the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update Website."
I AM currently using Outlook Express 6 through Cox Communications' Internet
Service. I wish to use the newly acquired Outlook but can't open it.

I have Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with Service pack 2 installed.

In Help | About Outlook Express .. what version does it say (build number)?
Even though OE 6 is newer than Outlook 2002 I can't find this error relating
to this combination.

I'm not sure what a "build number" is (I'm not that technically versed), but
here is what I found in "About Outlook Express," ....... 6.00.2900.2180
(xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158).

That's the latest build and the one I have.
I'd try and uninstall Outlook Express 6 and then install Outlook Express 5
and then Outlook. Later you can update to OE6.

I will try that. Will I lose my message folders?
I can't try this right now; something came up that will require my time for
the next several hours. But thank you very much for your help. After I try
the uninstalls, etc., I'll keep you posted.

I'd say not but back them up just in case. An OE group can help you locate
them. Try the Registry setting I posted below first. This could just be an
issue that the Key to say OE is installed is missing.
