Changing Hyperlink Colors

J

Jackie Brooks

In a message I couldn't figure out how to respond directly to because
I have a tiny brain, Klause gave advice on how to change the color of
hyperlinks and followed hyperlinks but ... I may need a little
elaboration. Can you tell me exactly what to do (feel free to assume
I'm stupid)?

I went into the formatting pallete but I ended up changing the color
of every word in my document. I'd like to be able to change the
default color to yellow.

THANKS!!!
Jackie Brooks

Edit the "Hyperlink" and "Followed hyperlink" character styles.
Though perhaps don't do too radical changes -- people have gotten used
to
blue and underlined.

Hi Jackie,

I see you're using Google to access this group. I think all you have to do
is hit ³Post a follow-up to this message², but you must register with Google
before this will work. If you'd like info on other (easier) ways to access
newsgroups, see this article.

As for your question . . . You need to learn about Styles in order to follow
Klaus's advice. And once you do, you'll find Word much, much easier and
more efficient to use. Look up Styles in Word's Help.

Briefly though, to change the Hyperlink (or Followed Hyperlink) Style, you
need to go to Format menu> Styles. In the Popup menu at the bottom left
(called "List"), be sure that All Styles is selected. You will then see a
list of all built-in styles in the box above. Scroll to find Hyperlink and
select it. You will now see a description of this Style at the right. It
will say (among other things) Font Color: Blue.

Click on the Modify button, then the Format button and then on Font. Change
the color to what you want and "okay" your way out of the dialog boxes. If
you want this change to apply to all documents, not just the current one,
then you need to do this procedure in the Normal template, save it, and
close it before opening a new blank document. All blank documents are based
on the Normal template unless otherwise specified.

You don't say what version of Word you're in (please *always* do when
posting) so your Normal template is likely in one of two places. If you're
in Word 2004: Documents/Microsoft User Data/Normal. If you're in Word X:
Applications/Microsoft Office X/Templates/Normal.

I suggest you spend some time at the following site which will help you
learn to use Word: <http://www.word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/> (If you're in
Safari, you will have to hit Refresh a few times; other browsers work fine.)

If
you want this change to apply to all documents, not just the current one,
then you need to do this procedure in the Normal template, save it, and
close it before opening a new blank document. All blank documents are based
on the Normal template unless otherwise specified.

OR make sure you check "add to template" in the Modify dialog box, which
will add it to the template, so it will apply to all future documents, but
not documents already created. If you check "automatically update," this
means that if you later make a manual change to one hyperlink, it will
change the style, and thus change all hyperlinks. This might be a good idea
for hyperlinks but usually is not something you want to do, as then you try
to bold one word and it bolds the whole document.
