changing line colour in an organization chart

O

ozsurfinnan

I have started going through the book "Microsoft Office Specialist Study
Guide
Office 2003 Edition" and have come across a bit I can not get to work as the
book states, page 32. That is to change the colour of the connecting lines
in
an autoformatted (Bevel) organisation chart. When I go to the AutoShape
dialog box the tab for changing colors and lines is inaccessible. I have
tried turning on and off the Auto layout on the Organisation chart Toolbar
but that does not help. I also have tried all sorts of combinations like
changing the colour of the lines before adding the bevel, rechecking in
options to get the drawing canvas activated again to copy and pasting into a
new document. If i choose default instead of bevel i can change the line
colour. The book says to change the lines to red then attach arrows to those
lines but I can not do this. Could someone please advise me where i am going
wrong or if I may need to change a setting or something.

Thanks

Hi Nan,

I don't have the book, and you didn't mention the steps it's suggesting to take, but if you're in the MS Office Diagram Tool Org
Chart and have already applied an Autoformat theme (beveled) for example to your diagram, right select one of the boxes in your
diagram then right click and uncheck the 'Use Autoformat' choice. You should then be able to double click one of the connecting
lines to that box to bring up the Format Autoshape dialog and change the line color.

Hi Bob

Thanks for your answering my post but turning off the AutoLayout doesnt work

Here are the steps I take following the books advice

Click on the “insert Diagram or Organization Chart†on the Drawing toolbar

In the “Diagram Gallery†that pops up – Choose “Organization Chartâ€

Click on “AutoFormat†that is on the organization chart toolbar.

Choose the “Bevelled†style.

From the toolbar “Select†all connecting lines

Display the “Format AutoShape†dialog box and change the line colour to red.
Attach arrows to the lines

Hi Nan,

It's the 'Use AutoFormat' choice not Autolayout you need to turn off. 'Use Autoformat' does not appear on the toolbar it's a right
click in the steps in my previous message.
