changing margins in footer affects whole document

I'm using Word 2002 and after trying to change the margin
in my footer, via the Page Setup button in the footer, it
changed the whole document. Is there a way around this
other than manually changing the margins by dragging the
corners of the footer?
thanks,
Regina

Hi Regina

You're having a problem because you failed to distinguish between a *margin*
and a *paragraph indent*.

Margins apply to an entire section or, if there is only one section, to the
entire document.

A paragraph indent (left or right) applies only to a paragraph or to a
paragraph style (and thus to all paragraphs that have that style, if they
don't have direct-formatted indents).

If you want to change the width of your footers, modify the paragraph
indents of the Footer style.
