Changing Project Calendar Mid Project Schedule

B

We have a schedule that was started using an 8 hour calendar and we
are midway through the schedule, due to a change in business we want
to change the project calendar to a 6 hour day, and change the
resource Max Units to 75% in ERP. Is this possible? And, if it is,
what are the pitfalls, e.g., started tasks?

By now you have probably noticed that your question is not getting any
replies. This is because changing the Project Calendar to a 6-hour day in
mid-stream on a project is simply NOT a good idea, and will open you to a
world of pain. A much BETTER approach would be to continue to use the
regular 8-hour Standard calendar, but to change the Units value on each
uncompleted task assignment to 75%. This would probably be a bit more work,
but would yield the desired result (it would show that the unstarted and
uncompleted tasks in the project will take longer). Hope this helps.

Thanks, that was what I though, but some of my PM's said it could be
done.

I am planning to change the Max Units in the ERP for the affected
resource to 75% with a starting effictive date.

I like your idea of changing the Max. Units to 75% with an effective
starting date. From that point forward, if a PM has a resource assigned to
a task with a Units value greater than 75%, the PM will see that the
resource is overallocated. And the only way to resolve an overallocation of
this type is to manually change the Units value on that task to 75% or less.
The PM CANNOT use the built-in leveling tool to resolve the overallocation.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

True, but it does not stop the PM from trying to level and possible messing up other parts of the schedule!
