changing project owner (drop down incomplete)

Using PS2007.
I need to change the project owner for a number of projects.
When I use PWA to do this through the project properties, the drop
down provided is incomplete. It only offers the choice of users in
the:

administrators
AND
Portfolio Managers

groups but NOT members of the Project Managers group. Why? This means
I HAVE to put someone in the Portfolio Managers group if I want to
make them the owner of an existing project (which I dont want to do).

Am I missing something? I cant think of any logical reason why the
drop down shouldnt offer you the choice of the Project Managers to
pick as an owner.

The behavior you see with the Owner field is a known and reported bug in
pre-SP1 Project Server 2007. The bug is that the Owner list does not
display the list of members of the Project Managers group. Here's a
workaround I discovered that will solve this problem:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions.
2. Click the Server Settings link in the Quick Launch menu.
3. Click the Manage Groups link in the Security section of the page.
4. Click the Project Managers group to edit the Group.
5. In the Categories section, select the My Organization category.
6. In the Permissions grid for the Categories section, set the "Save
Project to Project Server" permission to Allow:
7. Click the Save button.

Don't ask me WHY that works or HOW I discovered it, but it should solve your
problem temporarily until Microsoft fixes it permanently. After you apply
the workaround, refer to the 2007 section of the following FAQ to change the
Owner/Manager of the project:

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,
That worked perfectly.
Interestingly when I looked in the project managers group it didnt
have any access to the 'My Organisation' category. Is that the
default? I cant remember ever removing it but I may have
done.....anyway I added access to My Organsisation using the Project
Manager Templet (which includes the Save Enterprise Project
permissions) and now I can choose from any of the project managers.

Yes, the My Organization category is included in the Project Managers group.
If you didn't see it there, someone removed it. Hope this helps.
