Changing Project Status Date changes Project Finish Date

I need to report the project progress as of every Friday. When I
change the status date in the Project Information Menu, it changes the
planned finish date of the project by 3 months. I tried exploring the
tasks for which the date changes, however could not understand why
does the finish date change for them.

Hello Ritesh,

Check your settings on the Calculation tab, specifically the options
for moving the start of remaining parts forward to the status date.

It sounds as though you may have tasks which are running late. When
you update the % complete on the tasks and the setting "move the start
of remaining parts forward", project will move any incomplete work
forward to recommence on the status date. Check for split tasks and
that may help you work out what is going on.
