Changing READ ONLY files

M

Mucky

When I have worked on a spreadsheet on my computer and
saved it to a CD/RW and then given it to someone else to
open on their computer to work on, they end up having to
rename the file and get the message that it is READ ONLY.
Is this an automatic default that's causing the files to
be READ ONLY? Sometimes I'm able to get around this by
changing the attributes and deselecting READ ONLY, but
other times I get messages saying I can't change the
attributes. I have now opened each spreadsheet and gone
to the TOOLS/SHARE WORKBOOK and then saved the file in the
hopes that this will work, but I think there must be an
easier way to do this!

1) When you save files to CD/RW it automatically makes them Read only so you
need in Explorer to go to properties for the file and uncheck Read only

2) DO NOT SAVE FILES DIRECTLY TO OR OPEN FILES DIRECTLY FROM ANY SORT OF
PORTABLE MEDIUM!!!

Save file to HD, copy to Floppy/CD, copy from Floppy/CD to HD, open in Excel

Mucky, when you save a file to a CD it becomes read only, when you put it on
the other computers hard drive right click on the file and uncheck read
only, you can also select more than one file and do them all at one time.
