Changing Resolution of Images in Powerpoint?

J

Joseph

I handle large Powerpoint files that sometimes get unwieldly when
editing or e-mailing to others. The problem is large high-resolution
pictures that have been placed on slides within the file thus jacking
up the total file size. The images have been resized to fit onto the
slide, but of course the full image resolution is still there.

Is there a program or add-on, or even a way in Powerpoint that I may
have missed, that will allow you to change the resolution of these
images on the fly - such as allowing you to right click on the image
and say "change to XX resolution"?

What I don't want to have to do is to copy and paste each and every
image into a photo editor program to change the resolution. Also, I
don't want to set the whole powerpoint to a certain display resolution
so that it's no longer editable.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

If you have PowerPoint 2002, you can save the presentation with compression
and the total size will be *greatly* reduced. Go to File > Save As... and
click on the Tools pull-down and you'll see Compress Pictures. Then you can
open the newly named presentation and continue working on it.

As Sonia says, PPT2002 can do this. There's also the PPTools Optimizer
addin, www.pptools.com, that's a bit more flexible, imo, but then I helped
write it ;-) It's a commercial addin that works with PPT97 and up.
