Changing screen resolution in html

J

JimStipe

I am having people review my new website, www.JimStipeProductions.com at
www.SiteCritique.com So far, the main complaints are that the pages are too
wide thus giving a horizontal scroll bar: I have discovered their browser
is set at 800x600. Is there any way I can program in my html code the
screen resolution and change it on their computer when they pull my website
up. I've searched google and see there are some javascripts, but a lot of
people have java disabled. Which comes to my second complaint: Some people
have flash disabled, so therefore my header comes up as a blank white space,
and I am assuming that the links are not pulling up. It would be great if I
could insert text behind my flash area which would include my header
information, and the hyperlinks on my links button. Any suggestions? I
guess I forgot about browser compatibility when I designed my website.

The subject of webpages changing when viewed on different
computers using different resolutions (not to mention
different browsers) has been covered many times in the
General portion of this newsgroup. I would suggest you do
a search for the MANY questions and answers on this topic.

In a nutshell, what you are trying to do would probably
drive away your visitors in droves. They have their
computers set up they way they have because that is what
THEY want. They don't really care what YOU want.

You cannot change the screen resolution on anybody's computer from a
web page.
If you change the page layout based on screen resolution you will
upset many people who do not open their browsers to full screen. (My
screen resolution is 2560x1024, my browsers are normally opened to
800x600.)
